“Some Days it Really is Like This” by Michael Schoeffel (Essays)
“The Unknown Writer” by Andy Moon (Poetry)
This work of auto-fiction follows anti-hero Andy Moon as he chronicles his reckless and self-destructive lifestyle in Richmond, Virginia, following a breakup, detailing his struggles with alcoholism, depression, and aimlessness. The story culminates in a road trip of self-discovery sparked by an unexpected reconnection with an old acquaintance, Lovelee, which inspires him to embrace personal change and find redemption through love, leading to marriage and a new life in the Smoky Mountains. Throughout the text, Andy reflects on complex themes of human nature, intelligence (often comparing humans to animals like octopuses and gorillas), and the search for meaning.
“Pardon the Octopus” by Andy Moon (Novella)
“Pancakes at 3 a.m.” by Andy Moon (Poetry)
“Flowers in February” by Michael Schoeffel (Memoir)
